Costa Rica is most known for their wealth of animal life and nature and taking a river boat tour is one of the best ways of seeing it up close. To see wild crocodiles, monkeys, iguanas and lots of birds just a few metres away is an amazing experience and you can do this in many places around Costa Rica.
Two of the best places to do this are in Tortuguero National Park on the Caribbean side or in Palo Verde National Park on the Pacific Ocean side. Here you are sure to see plenty of animals as you slowly glide forward on the Tempisque River in Palo Verde or the river delta of Tortuguero.
During the dry season the Tempisque River is one of Costa Rica’s most important watering holes for almost all animals nearby. This protected area is a natural home to thousands of different animals of plants, 375 of Costa Rica’s roughly 900 species of birds can be found in Palo Verde National Park.
Your boat trip lasts for about 2.5 hours and you are comfortably seated in a low river boat as your guide tells you about the different animals and plants you can see on your journey. You will have great opportunities of meeting crocodiles, iguanas, turtles, monkeys and all of the birds, eye to eye. During this trip the cameras are usually constantly in the passenger’s hands as they photograph all the animals.
If you are interested in seeing wild animals up close out in the wilderness, this is the tour for you!
